“Herc!” Zeus yelled. He raced across the sand and reached for his belt. “Bolt, large!”

But Bolt wasn’t there.

Whoosh! The crab’s claw swooped across the sand and snatched up Zeus. Now the beast had both boys in its grasp.

“Hercules, did you take Bolt from me?” Zeus asked.

“I just wanted to borrow it!” the boy called back. “To test it out!”

Zeus restrained himself from yelling at Hercules. They had a bigger problem. The crab was scuttling into the waves. Soon, they’d be submerged under the water, with no escape.

“Toss Bolt to me!” he cried.

Hercules struggled to move his arms. They were pinned to his sides, like Zeus’s. “I can’t!”

Zeus closed his eyes and tried to push the crab claw open. He kicked his feet. Nothing worked. He felt the cold water lapping at his feet. The crab was sinking deeper and deeper. Now the water was up to his neck.

Is this how it ends? he wondered. Becoming some dinner for a giant crab?

“Heeeeeeeeeeelp!” Zeus yelled.
